This is a neat boombox. I use it when I am cooking or just relaxing. I have only used it indoors (where it sounds great), but I think it is good (though not the best) for outdoors as well.

I had modest expectations when I purchased this and it has worked very well for me. I use an ipod touch in the docking station at it works great. There is no way to navigate ipod menu's (such as artist, songs, and playlist) on the boombox itself, but I use the touch interface on my ipod and it works fine. Of course, the play, pause, and forward/backward skip buttons on the boombox can be used with the ipod (for example, after you choose your favorite artist, playlist,etc on your ipod unit then you can hit play on the boombox and the song will play).

The cd player works great even with heavily used or slightly scratched cds and also plays cdr or cdrw burnt cds. The radio gets great reception. Although you won't be able to throw a window shattering party with this one, I think it is a good buy for most people.

I have been looking for an Ipod/ tuner radio/ cd player for months. I found another brand I liked after doing a google search but I personally do not like ordering brands or from sites that I do not know. My amazon search did not yield this item. I went to Best Buy to look for something else and decided to check out the radios and there was this one but in black. I wrote down as much info as I could regarding model, etc and came home and typed into amazon. Yeah!

We use it our toddlers room so he can have all three exposed to him. We love the local Jazz and NPR stations, we occasionally still buy and receive CDs for him, and also download music onto our Itunes that we dock for him to use. Yes, the reception could be better, esp. for a digital tuner but are extremely pleased overall, love the white, and was $79 (with free ship) compared to Best Buys $99!

My wife didn't consult me when she bought this, she just added it to a bigger order, so when it showed up, I was upset it was a Sony product. But this little white radio has made me very happy! It replaced an aging Aiwa mini boombox in our kitchen, now we turn off the small kitchen television, and rock out while making dinner together! Sound quality is really very good. and the remote makes this a slam dunk. Also the user interface is basic and fast, and the forward stop advance buttons I thought were only CD function buttons controls the iPod as well. Its fantastic. Best little Sony product I have ever owned, and under a hundred bucks makes this a tremendous value... One little note, we have this on top of a shelf, and the angle of the CD screen was designed for a counter height... but it doesn't matter unless your listening to the radio and need to see the display for channel selections. Just keep that in mind if you intend to throw it on top of a fridge or something out of the way...

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 16 year old daughter. It was exactly what I expected and my daughter wanted. She uses it often to play her IPOD. It is not too heavy or large so it's easy to carry room to room.

This really meets my needs as a dock for my iPod. The sound is very good, but I listen to lectures and not music. I would definately recommend this to a friend for the same use.

I purchased this boombox to take with me on a trip with friends to Jamaica. I was expecting it not to play loudly and to go quickly through batteries, because that is what other people had said about this boombox. However, after a week in Jamaica playing it constantly I am still using the same batteries. We were on a beach in Jamaica and didn't need to raise the volume over 5. The only problem is that I have an iPod touch and in order for the iPod to stay in place I had to use a deck of cards to put in between the iPod and player. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with my purchase and can't wait to use it again.

I bought this to replace a CD player I already had (that works just fine) because I wanted to be able to listen to books on CD AND my new ipod I received for Christmas.
I have it plugged into an outlet so I really don't know about battery life and I pretty much leave it where it is so I can't tell you how portible it is but it works great for what I bought it for. I borrow books on CD from the library and listen to them while I sew in my sewing room and I've used my ipod on it and it's has been just fabulous. The white color was really hard to find, and that's just what I wanted so I think the product it perfect for me and I would deffinately recomend purchasing it.

The sound from this Sony boombox is as good as you're going to get for the price. It's a good way to keep your iPod charged. It carries nicely and looks good besides. I'm glad I got it. The real test is going to be how long it lasts.

just what i was looking for: a boombox without a cassette player, didn't really need the ipod dock either but can live with it. great sound, love the speakers. i've always had good luck with sony products. i liked it so well, i gave this one to my mother for a belated mother's day gift and ordered another one for myself. she loves it too!

I don't have an IPOD so I haven't used that feature. I bought it because I was looking for good sound quality on a small stereo for my bedroom. This works great, it even brings in my favorite radio station that I'm barely able to get on by other systems. Great sound. I highly recommend this item.

I bought this one for myself and my toddler ended up claiming it for himself to listen to his music.

It's nice looking, light, extremely portable (it goes from the deck to the kitchen to the playroom without a problem) and easy to use. The sound is fine, I mean it is not a Bose system but it works fine for us.

As for reception, which is quite crappy, I am not sure it is a problem of the boombox itself but more of the place where we live since we have the same problem with all our radios.

We use it mostly with my iPod. I just hope the CD reader has been improved since all Sony CD players I have owned die sooner or later. I guess we'll find out.

You get what you pay for, and this is a handy little boombox. If you are looking for better sound, you'll need to spend more cash.

I bought this box mostly to have a portable player for my ipod. This also has a cd player and radio which seemed to make it more functional but it is definitely not small/light/as portable as some of the other products I looked at. The sound is ok, not teriffic, but good enough for the backyard or listening around the house. I think I will use it a lot.

I am very pleased with my purchase! This was exactly what I wanted in order to a) give me an Ipod dock and b) eliminate the big bulky stereo system in my bedroom. So now I can choose to play my Ipod, listen to a CD or the radio! Plus it will charge my Ipod without having to turn on the computer! Great sound, great price! I would recommend!

Unless you turn on airplane mode, which means you can't use your phone or wifi. If yu don't turn on airplane mode it will add many intrusive sounds to your music and videos. Otherwise it is a great unit with most of the features that I want... the dock is in front not on top like most other devices, cd player, radio tuner, alarm.

Purchased this to mainly play the ipod through the speakers. Easy enough to set up as the tray on the front slides out to expose a dock for the ipod. The sound on the unit is ok but when we turn it up (and not that loud) the sound gets a little distorted. The sound quality is good however at the lower levels which is primarily where we set it. It is the perfect size as it fit nicely inside a book shelf. If you are looking for a boom box for your ipod this is a good choice.

The Sony is a well designed iPod dock and boombox with an emphasis on portability. The docking mechanism is very clever and hold the iPod securely against the face of the unit. I liked this design better than docks that put the iPod on top of the unit where the iPod is susceptible to being bumped or jarred loose. The cradle that holds the iPod is a sliding drawer that can retract into the boombox when not being used to hold the iPod. The cradle is most secure if the plastic cradle adaptor that come with the iPod is is used in the cradle.

Sound quality is Ok, about in the middle of the range of quality for the less expensive iPod docks. Speakers are a bit small and the bass is not strong. But the design emphasis is on portability and therefore compromises are to be expected. As a portable it can run on AC or batteries and will charge a iPod from the boombox batteries.

Overall we are pleased with this product.

I bought this unit for my mother for Christmas to replace an older, failing Magnavox boom box. I read several reviews about this comparing it with other similarly priced models and decided to go with this one. It looks nice, and the functions are relatively easy to figure out. The iPod Dock is a nice feature, and the tuner works decently. I was a little dissapointed with the boxy sounding bass and lack of clear highs about about 5 kHz on this thing. It projects well in the 500 Hz to 5 kHz range, but it's pretty much all mids, even with the bass boost engaged. It's a good radio for a garage or kitchen, and listening to radio it's fine. For the price it's probably pretty tough to beat sound-wise, but don't expect this to be a good bedroom system.

I purchased this "boom box" to use for coaching junior tennis and needed good portability and ample sound projection. I especially like that they did not build an oversize case just to make you think you bought a lot of radio. The sound is clear even at loud volumes and the bass boost is adequate. At this price, I would have liked to have mid-range and treble control, also. My daughter likes the ability to put her Ipod on the box and listen outside. And the CD player that I use in teaching doesn't skip even when hit by a random tennis ball. Radio reception is excellent, even in my laundry room to keep me entertained while doing chores. My last boom box could not receive stations without severe fade in that part of the house.

Overall, an impressive unit with good sound and great utility.

Purchased as gift for parent - good volume, easy to use, just 1) power 2) select device - CD, ipod, radio, aux, and 3) "go". Has simple sleep timer, above average remote. Only complaint is that it does accept CDs and custom CDs but ONLY in CD format. Does not accept MP3 CDs. If it had, I would have bought one for myself as well! I would be extra careful in using the Ipod tray - it sits up fairly high and you need a fair amount of pressure to lock the ipod in place.

I had a I-Home- first the part that plays I=Pods quit === then I kept it for the radio but eventually the radio tuner went out. I like this much better- better speakers, you can preset radio channels (making turning a snap) and it plays the I Pod great--- it has a remote control. Since I didn't use the I-Home as an alarm clock I don't miss that. And I have other clocks in the room. Oh, and a bonus -- this plays CDs also.

This is the perfect little portable radio for me and my family. The best part, it takes iphone too which the box saids nothing about but i tried it and it worked! I was also pleasantly suprised to know the remote control actually controls the ipod and my iphone! My radio is all white which looks really cute it has great sound even with all the noise around us at the beach i still heard it on my way back from the restroom, the quality of the sound is nice and clean! works with cord or battery, has am/fm, cd player.....No complaints!

I got this boombox to use while scrapbooking, cooking, or doing work at home. I love that it has CD, radio, AND iPod functions, so I can go with whatever mood I'm in at the moment. The sound is great (I've only used it indoors, but that's what I bought it for) and I also love that it has a remote so I don't have to leave the table to skip around a CD or even to turn it off. I keep it plugged in so I don't know how efficient batteries would be. The only reason I rated it 4.5 stars is that the handle on it seems a bit flimsy to me; the CD/cassette boombox that we already have (10+ years old) has a much sturdier construction. Overall, however, I love it and am thoroughly pleased with my purchase!

I purchased this Sony Boombox mainly for the IPod dock so I could listen to my favorite music at home without running around with headphones stuck in my ears. The sound quality is what I expected for any portable device. It is not as good as your home stereo system but the sound is very good for what I will be using the product for. At my age I no longer feel the need to blast music at ear deafening levels so the speakers can handle the volume I like to listen to. The carry handle makes it convenient to move but I would not be swinging the item around since it does not seem as durable as I would have hoped. This also goes for the pop-out tray that holds your IPod. The directions state to not carry the boombox around with the tray open, and I highly recommend this. I could see where you could easily damage the unit with the tray open. I gave the battery life 4 stars but have not utilized this feature yet. It does take 6- type C batteries so that is why it did not receive 5 stars. However, I do like the fact that it at least offers this option in case I take it where there is no electric hook-up. As far as ease of use, I think once you get through all the directions and understand the different features, you will like the unit. I do like the remote which is handy when you want to adjust the volume quickly. Would I buy this unit again? I wanted a compact boombox for CD playing and radio listening. (I don't need to attach an IPod.) The sound is clear and crisp, with tweaking of the telescoping antenna. Also wanted a white box, for decorative reasons. My only complaint is that the FM tuner doiesn't seem to scan automatically to the next station, unless I'm not operating it properly. But it is fine for the price -but don't expect the superior sound of more sophisticated models.

I have a Sharper Image radio with CD player that cost significantly less than this radio, and it sounds significantly better than this radio. Although I didn't spend much time trying to improve on the sound and reception quality, I found the reception to be poor and the sound to be tinny. My iPod sounded quite good, but I can buy iPod speakers for less. I needed the radio. Thankfully, Amazon rocks so I had no trouble returning it.

I just bought this Sony radio. It looks nice in the kitchen. The sound is ok. It is a 3 star radio. I only use it for the radio and the cd player when I am in the kitchen cooking and cleaning. I am having a problem with programming the cd so it will repeat all the tracks so I can play the cd over and over. Can someone help. Thank you.

Disclaimer: I purchased this only to play white noise on for our newborn daughter, so my experience is solely playing a CD on "repeat."

The sound quality is just fine, it's easy to maneuver, and I love that it has an iPod port.

However, it takes forever to "warm up" (for lack of a better word). Then, once it warms up and I select the CD mode, it takes a long time to process before you can actually hit "Play."

Because there are lots of features and functions on this boom box, you kind of need the manual if you want to do anything but hit "Play." It's not terribly intuitive.

The iPod port is a little flimsy, but it works if you make sure the iPod is situated nice and snug in the dock.

It serves its purpose, but could be easier to use.

The Boombox is being returned as I write this. The Ipod docking device malfunctioned after 2 hours of play. The good thing is that Sony is replacing it. Also, the MEGA-BASS function isn't very Mega-bass.

The ipod dock is very dissappointing! It lasted less than 6 months! I wish I had chosen a different player. Ipods are hard to get on and off the port which caused the port to bend. Now ipods do not fit at all!

I was very disappointed with this product. The sound did not have ANY bass even though it has a bass booster. For Christmas I received the ILive Radio (IB318B) and compared the music between the two radios -using my IPOD. It wasn't even close- the ILive blew it away. The Sony radio was more expensive and the quality was sub par with music having bass. For those of you who like dance music go with the ILIVE.

My wife and I made the mistake of ordering this player based on the Sony name without reading the reviews. Big mistake. The sound quality is NOT what should be expected at this price point. Have a $10 clock radio? That is what this boombox sounds like. The button for bass boost is literally a joke... and we're not talking about expecting Snoop-Doggy-Dog bass. We're talking listening to Jack Johnson or Cold Play and cringing because it sounds so bad. Unfortunately this one is going back to Amazon, and it's back to searching for a nice sounding machine for the baby's room :)
